KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Accused murderer Donald Jackson Jr. will remain jailed after a Leavenworth County judge denied him bond Friday at his first court appearance.

Jackson is charged with capital murder in the deaths of his sons — Logan Jackson, 14, and Austin Jackson, 12.

Kansas state law allows a judge to deny bail in capital murder cases. The motion was granted at the request of Leavenworth County District Attorney Todd Thompson.

During his brief court appearance, Jackson did not have an attorney, but said he’s in talks to have a capital defense team assigned to him.

The Kansas State Board of Indigents’ Defense Services has a Death Penalty Defense Unit, but it’s uncealr if that is who Donald Jackson has been contact with about handling his case.

Donald Jackson also complained about not being fed due to his unwillingness to wear a mask, which the court told him to discuss with his attorney, Thompson said.

He is due in court again on Nov. 16, subject to his attorney’s availability.

After a family member discovered the murdered Jackson brothers, authorities issued a multi-state Amber Alert for Donald Jackson two other Jackson children — both girls under the age of 7.

He was stopped and the girls recovered near the Texas border by a Beckham County, Oklahoma, sheriff’s deputy the evening of Oct. 24.

Donald Jackson has not been charged with any crime related to taking the girls from the home and leaving the state

He had filed for divorce from the children’s mother in August 2019. A divorce hearing had been scheduled for Nov. 12.
